Copyscape is a free plagiarism checking service that monitors and detects duplicate content.

This tool is used by content managers including those that accommodate guest posts on their sites to ensure that the content they post is original and not simply copied from other sources on the web. Publishers and authors also benefit from this service allowing them to easily keep track of people who copy their original work.

To use this tool, simply type the URL or text of the original content in the space provided and Copyscape will immediately provide a list of web pages that show similar text. The matching text is also highlighted on the web page included in the list.

Launched in 2004 by Indigo Stream Technologies Ltd., Copyscape is aimed at preventing content fraud which some people who don’t want to take the extra effort of writing original content are bound to do. With plagiarism a growing issue on the web today, this tool proves its worth to publishers, authors, bloggers and content managers.

It is a great way to find out if someone is lifting your work without crediting you.
