identi.ca is an open source social community networking and vastly micro-blogging service.This service is mostly based on the pump.io software.
Identi.ca running on pump.io is identical to ordinary social networking sites like Facebook and Google+, allowing without limitation status updates, high text and pictures. The Activity Streams protocol upholds various kinds of activities including games. OpenFarmGame is one of the prototype application for an Activity Streams based game.
StatusNet service received up to 8,000 registrations and 19,000 updates at the launching day on 02 julay,2008 within 24 hours and arrived its 1,000,000th notice(text updates) on November 4, 2008. In January 2009, identi.ca got investment funds from venture capital group Montreal Start Up.
Identi.ca has limited to users to send text updates (known as “notices”) up to 140 characters long. While alike to Twitter in both conception and operation, Identi.ca provided many amazing features not currently yet implemented by Twitter, including XMPP support and personal tag clouds. In addition, StatusNet allowed freely export and interchange of personal information and “friend” data based system on the FOAF standard.n Therefore, notices or text updates could be fed in other social service like Twitter account, and also ported in to a personal secured system similar to Yammer.
