Scraper Wiki is a web-based platform that allows programmers and journalists to collaborate on analyzing important public information. It works by building programs to extract and analyze public data available online.
Specifically, Scraper Wiki helps users get clean data from different sources on the web which they can analyze and manager.
Screen scraping is useful for journalists as it allows them to gather information from various sources that they can even store for use at a later time. The data they get is also easy to analyze. It is also possible to schedule a scraper to run at regular intervals and reformat data to clarify or filter it and make it compatible with other sets of information.
The tool’s name refers to screen scrapers or programs that extract information from websites and wiki which referse to a user with experience in programming who can develop or edit such programs to be used for extracting and analyzing data.
Founded in 2009 by Julian Todd and Aidan McGuire, Scraper Wiki was made possible through the support of TV station Channel 4’s venture capital arm and Enterprise Ventures.
