Vimeo is a video sharing platform launched from the U.S. in 2004. It stores and distributes video content in a secure manner.

On the site, users can create their own videos and share them with social networking sites. Or they can simply watch videos they find interesting. With great features such as HD playback, secure privacy settings and no ads to distract your attention, it’s easy to get hooked to this site. Vimeo was the first video sharing platform to launch such HD quality in 2007.

Those new to video making can even learn the tricks courtesy of the friendly staff willing to lend a hand. The Vimeo Video School section will teach you the right ways through lessons, tutorials and professional advice.

Vimeo is also mobile friendly so you can freely watch videos on your mobile phone or tablet while you’re on the go.

Vimeo was created by a group of filmmakers led by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein who wanted to share their creative work. This common goal led them to build a supportive community sharing different interests.

It also hosts an annual Vimeo Awards that showcase creative video content on the site. The first event held in October 2010 attracted more than 6,500 entries.
