Writeboard is a tool for editing text that is integrated with Basecamp. It allows group sharing and safe editing.

Members of a team collaborating on a project are able to edit documents safely using this free tool while the comparison mode is capable of comparing two revisions made on documents and projects.

To start using this app, a user simply creates a document with a title and body. Teams can then invite other members to collaborate on a document by sending an email invitation.

The tool also shows the name of author of a particular document, the versions made and the amount of time that has passed since the edits were made. The document versioning aspect is one of the advantages of Writeboard over its close competitors.

Although Writeboard’s standalone service is no longer available, users can still create Writeboards inside Basecamp Classic and Backpack.

Launched in 2007, Writeboard was created by the same group behind BaseCamp, Backpack, CampFire and HighRise. Its main aim is to help people use a simple and effective tool that will allow them to manage documents online whether they are doing a project alone or with other team members.
